Mankind Divided has a much smaller-scale story where Adam, despite already having gone through an entire previous game, is still barely a pimple on Bob Page's ass in terms of importance, and only at the end of the game does Page really acknowledge Adam's existence.

Mankind Divided is a game you can enjoy while sitting back in your recliner chugging beers, while Deus Ex 1 demands your full undivided attention (and rewards it).ĭeus Ex 1's melee attacks require precision but do not cost battery power. Mankind Divided has the most polished and complete combat and stealth in the entire series, with AI that behaves somewhat intelligently, but the game is designed around waypoint markers, and Adam is a complete badass superhero no matter what gear or augs he has equipped.
It also makes JC feel vulnerable, forcing you to choose carefully your augs, skills, weapons and upgrades. Mankind Divided remains beautiful 4 years after release, but you can't smash up all the furniture in Miller's office like you could with Manderley's.ĭeus Ex 1 has somewhat janky controls and combat mechanics, and nigh-braindead enemy AI, but it never holds your hand or holds you back from doing what you need or want to do. To me, Mankind Divided surpasses Human Revolution in all ways that matter, and Invisible War fails to stack up to any of them.ĭeus Ex 1 is an RPG with action game elements, Mankind Divided is an action game with RPG elements.ĭeus Ex 1 looks ugly and dated, but nearly every object in the game world can be interacted with or destroyed. I think they are equally tied as the best games in the series.
